Best Health Podcasts in 2023

Podcasts are one of my favorite ways to take in information. I love it because I can choose from so many experiences. I can spend 30 minutes listening to a podcast about anti-aging and then switch to a podcast talking about national parks! The majority of the podcasts on my rotation have to do with health and wellness (surprise, surprise!). I’m even starting my own health podcast called Chew The Fat with a friend covering topics related to chronic illness, climate change and how earth health deeply impacts and influences human health! I’m so excited to be delving in to the world of podcasts as it’s one of my favorite worlds to hang out in. It’s lovely to be able to feel some control over what information I take in from the world and I wanted to share a few of my absolute favorite health and wellness podcasts that are out there. I use Spotify but these can be found wherever you get your podcasts. There are so many and it can certainly be overwhelming at times so I hope you find this helpful and give a couple of them a listen!

  1. Next 7 by suzanne harris

I love this podcast by my friend and colleague Dr. Suzy Harris. She chats with local leaders in various fields related to the human-planet connection and how it’s tied into our food systems, soil & water quality and functional health care. Dr. Suzy is an incredible chiropractor and nutrition response testing practitioner who focuses in on what each individual needs. It’s personalized care that is hard to find in an impersonal health care system and her podcast feels like an expansion of the amazing conversations we’ve had in office. She always meets the most interesting people doing amazing things, so to get a sneak peek in to conversations she’s having with makers and doers in our community is a treat. I especially enjoyed her episode with Bob Fireovid from Health Hero Organic Cattle Farm about soil regeneration and how we can responsibly raise and consume beef.

  2. The Optimal body with dr. Jen & dom fraboni

This is a physcial therapist married couple who get in to so many different topics. One of my favorites is episode 9 about scoliosis and how to overcome back pain and episode 21 about moving lymph to improve mobility. They do a lot of interviews with experts in various fields and the cutting edge research coming out about topics from fascia health to dental wellness. It really runs the gamut and they are generally 25-45 minute long episodes so they are a manageable length but chock full of awesome info. They have over 200 episodes to date and they just keep coming out with great topics. The next one I’m excited to listen to is their most recent episode about reversing cavities!

  3. autoimmune simplified with Dr. alison danby, nd

You may think this podcast is not for you because you don’t have an autoimmune issue but you very likely have a loved one with an autoimmune condition. Even if you don’t, this podcast is like getting all the insider tips from a doctor in the medical field about how to manage your health. My favorite episode is one everyone should listen to: episode 98 about how to become your own medical advocate. It’s an amazing walk through on how to become the CEO of your health and have a better relationship with your doctor. I hear from clients all the time that they are frustrated with their doctors and feeling unsatisfied with their medical experiences. She recommends creating timelines for you health, she has templates to compare lab result over the years so you can show these to your doctor (especially helpful if you have chronic issues or if you move cities/state/countries and need to get a new doctor!) and she now offers an educational membership. I am often impressed with how well she breaks down a complicated aspect into bite sized, doable steps. Definitely don’t miss out on this podcast!

  4. the human upgrade with dave asprey

I’ve been listening to Dave Asprey for years. He’s had a wild journey that brought him face to face with dangerous health issues and turned it into an opportunity to educate others. This podcast is a rebrand of his first called Bulletproof radio which was about hacking aging and learning to live healthy to 100. He’s expanded his topics a lot and now delves in to many aspects of the human experience, from reducing inflammation to how to master sleep to mold’s toxic effects on the body. It is quite a broad list of information he’s covering and has incredible guests on the podcast. Many are researchers and doctors at the forefront of groundbreaking discoveries. I’m excited to listen to his episode about healing trauma with touch therapies and I love the one he did about the Kava plant and it’s medicinal qualities. This podcast gets very science-y, which I love, and it makes some things that mainstream culture considers “woo woo” actually make sense. He debunks myths with people who know their topics inside and out from years of research and experience so if you want to optimize your health and hear the latest in technology, personal development, science and human health listen to Dave.

  5. everyday ayurveda and yoga at hale pule by myra lewin

I am a lover of all things Ayurvedic and yoga so this podcast is a go to for me. Ayurveda is the health care system of India and has been around for centuries. It is a preventative style of medicine and is a proponent of healing not only the physical but the mental, energetic and spiritual bodies of a person. It is an incredibly complex and nuanced form of medicine that takes many years to learn and Myra has been practicing for many decades now. She explains health issues and how to achieve better health through the lens of Ayurveda and as I’ve applied certain things slowly over the years, I’ve seen improvements in my health. Her episode on travel is a must and if you love yoga she gives lots of tips regarding the many aspects of this amazing medicine. The next episode I’m going to jump in to is called ‘Take the stress out of your commitments’. Who doesn’t need some advice on that front? She also has a wonderful youtube channel with videos on best foods to eat for your dosha (take a dosha quiz here) and guided meditations that are lovely. If you need a soothing voice to help guide you to better health and wellness, listen in to Myra.
